Ar-Rahman; The Entirely Merciful
Today, we will talk about the second name of Allah, Ar-Rahman. This is also an Arabic word, which means The Entirely Merciful. The name Ar-Rahman is reserved only for Allah. It is a quality that cannot be attributed to anyone else. A person can be called Raheem, which means to be merciful. But Ar-Rahman is an all-encompassing mercy that reaches far and touches everything and everyone. The kind of mercy that knows no bounds.
As a name, it is understood that this kind of mercy is reserved for Allah only. So, a person named Rahman must have the prefix Abdur, which means servant of the merciful.
The following hadith comments on Allah's mercy;
“Verily, Allah has one hundred portions of mercy. From one portion the creation has been given mercy by virtue of which there is mutual love between the people and ninety nine portions are reserved for the Day of Resurrection.”
As a Muslim, it is important for us to know the meaning of every name of Allah, and the benefits of reciting His names. It is known that by reciting the name Ar-Rahman 100 times after every obligatory prayer, the reciter's memory and awareness will enhance. He/She will feel the burden vanishing away from his/her heart.
As I explained in my previous blog post, there are two types names of Allah; Jamali names and Jalali. Hence, the name Ar-Rahman is a Jamali name, since you would love for Allah to be merciful with you.
In the final note for this name, Muslims start every task by saying Ar-Rahman through the phrase;
"بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ" (Bismillah Hir-Rahman Nir-Raheem)
"In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful."
Truly, all things are only made possible with Allah's blessing. We require His mercy and grace in all matters.
So, I hope you learnt something new from this blog post. It feels important to me to tell everyone about every name of Allah. Share this post with the people you love, and tell everyone about what you learnt today after reading this post.
Take care of yourselves.
