Al-Baari: The Originator
Allah's name Al-Baari is one of the 99 names of Allah in Islam. It comes from the Arabic word "Bari," which means "the Originator" or "the Maker." This name emphasizes Allah's power and ability to create things from nothing.
The name Al-Baari appears in the Quran in several verses, including Surah Al-Hashr (59:24), where Allah is described as "He is Allah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise."
Imam al-Ghazali compares these three names to the process of constructing a house. You have the planner, the builder, and the designer who gives it its final shape. Similarly, Allah takes on the three roles - the creator, producer, and the fashioner. However, the difference is we are not really inventing. Only Allah creates and He does so on an unimaginable scale. He creates from nothingness, whereas we are merely finding ways to transform material from one form to another. We are limited in what we can make, whereas Allah's creation is unbounded.
Here you can read other verses which do not contain the name Al-Bari but further describe Allah as being the best of creators.
ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ
"Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?" — (Qur'an 82:7)
In Islamic theology, Allah's ability to create is considered one of His fundamental attributes. Muslims believe that Allah created everything in the universe and that He is the ultimate cause of all things. The name Al-Baari is a reminder of Allah's power and the fact that He is the sole creator of everything.
Muslims often reflect on Allah's name Al-Baari when they contemplate the beauty and complexity of the natural world. They see the wonders of creation as a reflection of Allah's infinite wisdom and creativity. Muslims also strive to emulate Allah's creative power by using their talents and abilities to create good in the world.
It is mentioned in the Holy Quran:
وَتَرَى ٱلۡجِبَالَ تَحۡسَبُهَا جَامِدَةٗ وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ ٱلسَّحَابِۚ صُنۡعَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَتۡقَنَ كُلَّ شَيۡءٍۚ إِنَّهُۥ خَبِيرُۢ بِمَا تَفۡعَلُونَ
"And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds. [It is] the work of Allah, who perfected all things. Indeed, He is Acquainted with that which you do." — (Qur'an 27:88)
One of the most significant aspects of Allah's name Al-Baari is that it emphasizes the importance of being grateful to Allah for His blessings. Muslims are reminded that everything they have, including their existence, is a gift from Allah. They should, therefore, express gratitude and seek to use their blessings in ways that please Allah.
Al-Baari is a Jamali name, and this name only signifies that Allah created all things in proportion.
In conclusion, Allah's name Al-Baari is a powerful reminder of Allah's creative power and ability to bring things into existence from nothing. It is a name that encourages Muslims to reflect on the beauty and complexity of the natural world and to be grateful for Allah's blessings. By doing so, they can strive to emulate Allah's creativity and use their talents and abilities to create good in the world.
